Nursery Aims

We aim to ensure every child receives an enjoyable and challenging learning and development experience that is tailored to their individual needs and interests, informed by the use of sensitive observational assessments and reflecting the rich and personalised experience that you as parents, carers and family members give their children at home.
Our aim is to create a full and exciting environment inside and outdoors, in which each child can interact and explore rich and diverse learning and development opportunities, through a range of stimulating activities, learning new ideas and developing new skills.
We encourage all children to grow in confidence and to fulfil their potential, participating in art and craft projects, design and technology, singing, imaginative play and using large and small equipment designed to develop their co-ordination and construction skills. Fridays are especially exciting as Karen Simpson, our specialist music teacher, visits to give all our children a “Fiddlesticks” session, incorporating her comprehensive range of music, rhymes, songs and musical instruments from around the world!
In order to safeguard and promote the welfare of all of the children in our care we are committed to every aspect of provision to help each child achieve the five “Every Child Matters” outcomes, staying safe, being healthy, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution and achieving economic well being.
Bridgemont Nursery promotes inclusion for both children and adults alike, irrespective of age, gender, race, class or disability.”

Parental Involvement

At Bridgemont Nursery we recognise parents and families are central to their child’s well being and understand that a child’s earliest experiences help to build a secure foundation for their learning throughout their school years and beyond. In caring for your child we wish to reflect the rich and personalised experiences that you as parents (and other family members and friends) give their children. We are therefore fully committed to this important parent partnership between ourselves, openly supporting the sharing of information and offering support for extended learning in the home.
We regularly produce an information letter for parents telling them of our topic plans for the upcoming half term.
An essential feature of our parent partnership is the ongoing dialogue at arrival and home time. This reporting and sharing of information is an ongoing and essential process throughout your child’s time at Bridgemont Nursery. All staff interacting with each child contributes to the ongoing assessment process and account will be taken of information provided by parents / carers.
Parent’s have access to their child’s records of progression and achievement at all times, please just ask. You are invited to make written comments within the documentation on your child’s progress and children are invited to contribute to these folders should they wish to.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Children are encouraged to gain confidence and have respect for themselves and others. Group work is especially useful in developing relationships, learning to share and taking turns. All children are made aware of right and wrong, and shown appropriate behaviour. We provide experiences and support for each child to learn a positive disposition, developing their attention skills and perseverance, in so doing, promoting a strong self-image and self-esteem.

Physical Development

Each child will be encouraged through a provision of opportunities to be active and interactive. We will support and extend their skills of co-ordination, control, manipulation and movement and through a range of activities and contexts all children will be given the opportunity to practise their fine and gross motor skills, use all their senses as appropriate and make healthy choices. We have a wide range of resources both large and small and we are very fortunate to have our own private garden and adjoining park.

Communication, Language & Literacy

We will provide opportunities to support and extend talk and communication with each child, within a widening range of situations and purposes, encouraging responses with each other and with adults. We provide opportunities to extend listening skills, practicing and developing vocabulary and articulation.  We celebrate the enjoyment of words and text within a broad range of contexts using exploration and discovery, developing each child’s confidence to begin to write and read using a wide variety of non-fiction, fiction, rhymes, music, songs, poetry, stories and I.C.T. equipment.  Language skills are especially encouraged, including discussions during register time, music sessions, story time and snack time. We currently run a library service within Nursery to reinforce these skills between settings.

Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy

In providing opportunities to practice and extend each child’s individual skills, to gain confidence and competence, we will provide a broad range of contexts in which children can explore, learn, enjoy, practise and talk, ensuring there are opportunities for them to develop their understanding of number, pattern, shape, space and measurement.

Creative Development

We will support and extend each child’s individual creativity through their curiosity, exploration and play. All children will be provided with the opportunity to explore and share their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of art, design and technology, music, movement and dance, imaginative role play, baking, cutting and colour and texture and dimension comparisons.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

All children will be supported and given every opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding that help them to make sense of the world, extending their skills in using a wide range of tools safely, encountering creatures, people, plants and objects in their natural environments and in real-life situations, undertaking practical “experiments”, working with a range of materials, solving problems, making decisions, predicting, planning and questioning in a variety of contexts, exploring their environment, inside and outside, and enquiring about the people and places that have significance in their lives.
Our music session is heavily involved in this area of the curriculum through the introduction of instruments,
songs and rhymes from all over the world.

Behaviour Policy

Our aim at Bridgemont Nursery is that all children are well behaved and show respect for others. We want them to show friendship and care for others and to enjoy themselves whilst learning through play.
Despite such a positive atmosphere there are times when children do things that are unacceptable. This policy covers how such behaviour is treated at Nursery and advises parents/carers of our expectations.
Good behaviour is a necessary condition for effective teaching and learning to take place. The attitude of the staff is of utmost importance. They determine the environment in which good relationships can develop, leading through example in matters of friendship, fairness and care.

Equal Opportunities

At Bridgemont Nursery our aim is for all children and adults within the nursery irrespective of ethnicity, culture or religion, home language, family background, learning difficulties or disabilities, gender or ability to be given the opportunity to experience a challenging and enjoyable programme of learning and development. We recognise our responsibility to ensure positive attitudes to diversity and difference ensuring every child is included and not disadvantaged.

At Bridgemont Nursery we are aware of our responsibilities under food hygiene legislation and are registered with Derbyshire Environmental Health Dept.
